Here’ s a question that people often ask me:

What is mindful sales? Does that mean you can reduce stress when you sell?
Well . . . yes, but it’s so much more. Here are just some of the ways mindfulness helps:

Mindfulness helps you up your game.

Did you know that the National Basketball Association acquired a mindfulness app for all their players? They realized that just as important as physical strength and agility, it’s mental strength and agility that helps players up their game.

Mindfulness helps you stay positive.

The brain has a built-in negativity bias which developed as an ancient survival mechanism. It’s widely reported that the average person thinks 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day, many of which are negative. Imagine being able to pick and choose positive thoughts that support your goals.

Mindfulness helps you become aware of your thoughts.

Your thoughts have a tremendous amount of power. Becoming aware of them allows you to clear your mind, so you can release negative thoughts and choose positive ones that support your goals; release judgments that could interfere with client relations—and much more!

Mindfulness helps you focus on your customers’ needs.

It’s said that people talk at an average speed of 150 words per minute, but when they listen, they can process 500 words per minute. Imagine being able to focus on what your clients say, listening with the intent to understand, rather than with the intent to reply—so you can discover how to serve them.

What is mindful sales?

• Strategizing instead of stressing

• Seeing the glass half-full instead of half-empty

• Being service-oriented instead of selling-oriented

Mindful Workplace Study

I implemented mindfulness programs for groups of sales professionals in varying industries.

Participants reported statistically significant differences from pre- to post-program in the ability to:

  • Reduce stress,
  • Recognize and release negative self-talk,
  • Envision positive outcomes,
  • Feel confident,
  • Recognize new opportunities, and
  • Identify sources of motivation.

A majority of participants reported the intention to use the skills learned going forward.
